Sleep Apnea and SomnoMed

Las Vegas, NV

If you are suffering from sleep apnea or one of its symptoms, snoring, then you know how disruptive these can be to your daily life. When you don’t sleep well, you may struggle staying awake during the day. And, if you share your bed, your partner may find your snoring to be disruptive to their sleep as well.

However, there may be other serious health risks tied to sleep apnea that you should be aware of. Sleep apnea, or the stoppage of breathing for several seconds many times a night, can greatly increase your risk of heart attack or stroke. People with high blood pressure or those who are overweight are more likely to have sleep apnea. They are also more likely to snore.

SomnoDent MAS

Because sleep apnea has been identified as a health risk, there are many ways to treat it. One of them is the oral appliance known as SomnoMed Mandibular Advancement Splint, or SomnoDent MAS. This oral appliance fits over the teeth like a mouth guard, and is very effective in stopping snoring, as well as treating obstructive sleep apnea.

SomnoDent MAS is one of the most comfortable mandibular advancement splints available, and clinical trials have shown that it is extremely effective. It is custom-made to fit your unique bite, does not interfere with your tongue, and you are still able to open and close your mouth in a normal way.

How It Works

Snoring is caused by the partial collapse of the airway while you are asleep. The sound of snoring is due to the soft tissue vibrating as you breathe. When there is a complete collapse of the airway, you stop breathing altogether. This is called sleep apnea.

When you are wearing the SomnoDent MAS, the appliance pushes your lower jaw forward of its natural position. This tightens up the soft tissue at the back of your throat and prevents your airway from collapsing. The patented “fin” mechanism on the lower arch helps keep your lower jaw in the forward position. One of SomnoDent MAS’s unique features is that you are still able to move your mouth up and down, and your jaw’s position is not compromised, no matter if you sleep with your mouth open or closed.

People who have tried other obstructive sleep apnea treatments, such as CPAP, without much success, may find SomnoDent MAS to work for them. Furthermore, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommend that sleep appliances like SomnoDent MAS as a first line treatment for snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.
